Declaration – Part Two (Liberty)

What is liberty?  Is it so simple to describe liberty as freedom in action or is liberty something else?

According to liberty is

freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control.
freedom from external or foreign rule; independence.

freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.

freedom from captivity, confinement, or physical restraint

In order to better understand the above definitions, freedom is defined on as

the state of being free  or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.

exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.
the power to determine action without restraint.
political or national independence.
personal liberty, as opposed to bondage or slavery.
Combined, there is a common thread between freedom and liberty, and it is very easy to misapply the two. Liberty is equal to autonomy.  Liberty is simply put self-governance and human autonomy.
Paul speaks about freedom in Galatians.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Freedom itself comes from Christ, the Word, the Truth.  The verse above is not speaking about a tyranny of man though, but the tyranny of sin.  A blogger that I regularly read talks about the parallel relationship between freedom and liberty.
What is freedom? Freedom is to be alive in Christ Jesus. Freedom isn’t keeping your money or your house or your car or your shit. Freedom isn’t going hither and yon whenever you please. Freedom isn’t earthly liberty. Earthly liberty is a mere derivative of authentic freedom, which is Jesus Christ Himself. Reject Christ, and you’re already a slave, and thus earthly liberty will be impossible.
Liberty on Earth is just a taste of true freedom, which is only found in Christ.  Cast down your crown.  Humble yourself before God enthroned and Christ will pick you up.  He will stand next to you and proclaim you as redeemed.  You then will experience freedom as never before.
Could the drafters of the Declaration have been proclaiming True Freedom instead of liberty in this powerful document?  Are you truly free or just getting the sampler of liberty?
