AP: This Is Nothing

I needed this today. It’s not that I was wild about Mitt Romney as the nominee, but I saw him as a better alternative than President Obama. A night of sleep helps one get some good perspective once it’s all said and done (I didn’t stay up watching the results, I actually read about 150 pages of a great book – something that, as a father, I don’t always get the chance to do).

AP is dead on. In the end, when the true “tally” is posted, this election and the lead up and results of it amount to absolutely nothing in terms of the entirety of existence. (Remember, you are a speck… everyone around you is a speck in the grand scheme of things).

We will continue the slow slide down economically, militarily, diplomatically, and culturally…. occasionally slowing down… occasionally speeding up… but always moving in the same direction. Neither of the two men vying to be President would have changed that ultimate reality.

What can we do then? What would Christ do in our circumstance? I don’t like to hypothesize how Christ would react because there is a fine line that I dare not cross, but I imagine he would tell us to love our neighbors regardless of how they voted and to love God. So basically, just keep on keeping on.

You want to really stick it to someone, when they come to throw new regulations down on you, tax you a little more, or oppress you more… you radiate love back at them and they’ll be befuddled. The President said that “voting is the best revenge” a few days ago… he’s wrong. Love is the best revenge because when it all counts at the end, love will carry the day and for all eternity. Choose the winning side… resist… love.

Like “that look” from your doctor.

This is nothing.

Except confirmation.

The issues are no longer in doubt.

And the odds do not matter.

Get right.

And then get busy.
