Same-Sex Marriage – A Message to Supportive Christians

I am appalled and saddened by the so-called Christians who are openly supporting that which is identified as sin time and time again within the Bible, of which you supposedly assert is the true word of God.  How can you honestly expect to stand before your Creator at your judgment and say that you believe that sinners deserved the right to continue sinning?

Are we not called to eliminate the sin from our lives and to not be stumbling blocks for others?  By enabling further sin and the further defiling of the Godly structure of marriage, do you not become complicit in the very sin itself?

Do you take an alcoholic to a bar?

Do you send your children over to play at a known pedophile’s house?

Do you invite a compulsive gambler to your weekly poker game?

No, because you are enabling the sin.

Now, as an enabler of sin, are you showing love for the person or love for the world?

Has no one condemned you?”

“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

John 8:10-11

Christ did not hate the woman in this passage.  He saved her from a stoning.  She was living in sin, but Christ did not save her so that she could continue sinning, but rather so she could leave her sins behind and live a new life in the glorious truth of His Righteousness.

So what will it be?  Enabler of sin or freedom from sin?

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Romans 1:28-32

By enabling the sin, by validating it and supporting a so-called “right” to the blessing and privilege of the defined title of marriage, you show a callousness toward sin that should shake you to your soul.  Look at the words Paul penned above… the people he is talking about were professing Christians!  No understanding!  No fidelity! No love!  No mercy!  Does that description offend?  Good.

Christ did not die to enable sin, but to destroy it.

  1. While I understand the religious non-sanction of same-sex marriage, one must always remember that that is not the issue at hand here. Even if same-sex marriage IS wrong, it can’t be made illegal:

  2. Indeed. For me to support “gay marriage”, this means I am supporting sex within marriage. Now then, we know that Father is not too keen on homosexuality and/or homosexual sex, so by my endorsing “gay marriage”, I am endorsing homosexual sex. Father does not like homosexual sex. I am in essence telling Him that I don’t really care what He likes or dislikes. Oops. This will not end well.

  3. cyclimus,
Jeremiah 7 paints the picture of where the children of Israel were spiritually just before the exile of Judah. The Jews believed because they had the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem God would never allow them to go into exile like He had Israel. In verse 18 says that the children gathered wood, the fathers kindled the fires, and the mothers made cakes for the queen of heaven. In other words these Jewish parents who should have been teaching their children about the one true living God were teaching them pagan religions. In verse 10 it tells us that the Jews were going to the Temple claiming deliverance simply because they were going through the motions of religion. They were not dedicated to God, just paying Him the same respect they showed to pagan gods.

That’s not near enough to pay to the one true living God. He deserves our lives and full devotion. He is a jealous God and desires His people to be jealous of Him, forsaking anything that is not of Him.

The post modern American church is following in the footsteps of Israel and Judah. We have listened to the cultural Marxist and believed what they have told us. The church has swallowed hook, line, and sinker, pagan beliefs. And just like the Jews in Jeremiah, we have tried to make those pagan beliefs part of the Christian religion. The Torah was very outspoken and plain to the Jews but they could not see for they were blinded by the lusts of their hearts. The post modern American church has followed in their footsteps, dragging paganism into the Temple of the Lord once again, this time the temple is our hearts and not a building.

We have sown to the wind, now we shall reap the whirlwind of God’s judgment. But remember the point of judgment on this earth is to bring redemption. May it be so.

I appreciate this piece it is right on target.

Interesting that you compare gay marriage to gambling and alcohol addiction. Is it a sin to drink and gamble or just to be addicted to it? If it is the former, why aren’t you crusading to ban both activities for everyone, addicted or not. If the latter, your point is moot because there is no addiction involved in homosexuality. But I don’t see you or anyone else trying to legislate the morality of divorce or adultery, only when it affects an “other” like gay people do you throw your arms up in defiance. Look at Rob Portman, he was opposed to gay marriage until it hurt his son, now that “sin” doesn’t bother him anymore.

But when it comes down to it, why do you want to impose your personal religious beliefs on me? Why codify in law that I cannot marry who I choose because it goes against your religion? If it is against my beliefs for opposite sex couples to marry, would that be sufficient cause to ban straight marriage? If God doesn’t want to recognize my same sex marriage, he doesn’t have to. He can condemn me, banish me to hell and generally think ill of me. But it is not for the US government to speak for God nor is it their right to discriminate. My secular gay marriage doesn’t affect your religious marriage, nor does changing the definition of secular marriage change God’s mind.
