More gun handling advice

from our esteemed vice-shotgunner-in-chief.

[Y]ou want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.
Vice President Joe Biden
Apparently, Attorney Biden is not aware of safe gun handling rules.  According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the ten safe gun handling rules are:
  1. Always keeps the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  2. Firearms should be unloaded when not actually in use.
  3. Don’t rely on your gun’s “safety.”
  4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
  5. Use correct ammunition.
  6. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, handle with care.
  7. Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting.
  8. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting.
  9. Don’t alter or modify your gun, and have guns serviced regularly.
  10. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using.

Well done Mr. Biden.  More bad legal advice coming from someone who supposedly has a law degree and practiced as an attorney.  First, giving advice to fire into the air if you “think” someone is outside trying to get in to your house and now this gem.

Is this not enough to be disbarred now?

Why We Have Guns

Why would politicians attempt to take away arms and surround themselves with armies of guards? To protect themselves against the crazy people, who have no fear for their lives and usually make it through, or to protect themselves against the sane people, who hope to keep their liberty and their lives? Image how much better our country would be if politicians still had to worry about getting shot, in addition to loosing elections, every time they consider a new flaming hoop for us to jump through; they might not make the hoop.”

Why We Have Guns.

Threats

One of my favorite talk radio hosts has a phrase he often uses: liberals love democracy until the vote doesn’t go their way.  To add substance to this quote, in the aftermath of Tuesday’s debate, a number of tweets flooded Twitter calling for assassinations of Governor Romney or riots should he win the general election come November.

While I take these threats with a grain of salt, I refuse to walk through life with blinders on.  There will be violence in that event.  It may not visit my neighborhood, or even my county, but I would rather be prepared for such an eventuality and not need to rely on my preparations.  I love to wade into the cultural war going on between right and left, good and evil, capitalism and communism, etc… and I sense a palatable amount of vitriol on both sides over this upcoming election.  This country is being divided into two camps.

There is little middle ground between the two, so the culture of animosity has grown since roughly the halfway point of the Clinton presidency by my personal estimation to what you see today.  I don’t believe that the conservatives will riot as they are… you know… conservative.  That usually means that they are more restrained (this is a generality and there are sure to be some examples where it is not true).

At this point you probably wonder why this matters.  If the chance is fairly low in your estimation, why bother talking about it?  Because I love my wife and my kids and I would be negligent in my duties as a husband, father, and protector of my family if I didn’t constantly have a keen eye watching the borders of my personal kingdom.

Whoa whoa whoa… kingdom?

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Genesis 1:26

Man was made in the image of God.  God is the King of all creation, therefore we are charged with being kings as well.  We are kings over all of creation by design.  We have more specifically been charged to protect our wives and children though.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Ephesians 5:25

One of the attributes of a good king is that they constantly are on guard against an invasion or an attack.  Those that submit to the king rely on the king to guard their lives and to protect them from all aggressors.  So you can say that I am being paranoid, or you can think hard about your role within your family.  You can be a loving father and husband, but failing at one of your principal duties to your wife and children in that they are protected by you.

The next question you might be asking about now is: how can one man protect his family from a riot?

You took seriously this instruction from Jesus right?

“But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”

Luke 22:36

There is one other thing to consider though… even armed, against a riot, I don’t stand a chance alone, but if I ally myself with other similarly minded men… kings… then together we can defend our families.
