“Coexist” street artist beaten to a pulp by Muslims

“Coexist” street artist beaten to a pulp by Muslims.

I’m not surprised in the least.  You can only coexist when you view all members of society as equal in all respects.  Jews and Christians believe that God created man and woman and each carries the spark of the Creator.  Christians further believe that Christ sacrificially died for so that all could come to the Father.

Islam though shares no similarity with these two other stalwart monotheistic religions.  There is built in to the Islamic system a fundamental inequality.

Qur’an (4:11) – (Inheritance) “The male shall have the equal of the portion of two females” (see also verse 4:176).  In Islam, sexism is mathematically established.

Qur’an (5:6)“And if ye are unclean, purify yourselves. And if ye are sick or on a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye have had contact with women, and ye find not water, then go to clean, high ground and rub your faces and your hands with some of it”  Men are to rub dirt on their hands if there is no water to purify them following casual contact with a woman (such as shaking hands).

Qur’an (4:3) – (Wife-to-husband ratio) “Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four”  Inequality by numbers.

This all implies fundamental inequality.  In systems of inequality, violence against those “lesser” than you can easily be justified morally, ethically, and legally (under Shariah law).

So color me surprised that the artist got himself beat up by the very people he wants everyone else to “coexist” with.

Loving Your Neighbor

~ Radical thoughts to follow. ~

So many Christians these days are stuck in thinking of God as the almighty Creator of the universe, the final judge and authority on everything good, and they fear this powerful deity enthroned in unfathomable power.  They get so caught up in the God who utterly crushed Sodom and Gomorrah, caused the ground to swallow up disobedient men whole, and sent bears to maul dozens of “youths” in response to a curse by His prophet after their “teasing” of him.  If that is the God you know, you are missing Him… essentially in a forest for the trees moment.

Now let me get this straight – the God I’m talking about did all of those things, but He is so much more.  The God I’m talking about is not vengeful and destructive – He is creative, He is merciful, He is loving.  He is not hovering somewhere up in space ready to cast down lightning and hurl giant hailstones at you if you stumble and fall in trying to serve Him.

This is why the concept of God the Father is so important.  Think to your own children if you have them.  As a father, we only want the very best for them.  We teach them, guide them, influence them, discipline them, and love them as much as we can before we turn them loose on the world.  God the Father is no different, except that He doesn’t want us to ever get turned loose, but rather to turn back to Him – to love Him in return and to become not just His child, but rather also His friend.

Few men in the Bible were ever credited as friends of God – Abraham, Moses, David. These men didn’t go on and do measly things either. Abraham is the forefather of two great peoples – Jews through Isaac (by extension Christians) and Muslims. Moses became the first civil rights leader the world has ever seen – he led an entire nation from slavery to freedom.  David established Israel as a nation-state and also provided the family lineage for the Son of God to be born with a royal bloodline.  These men also give us a stark contrast though because of their friendship with God – Moses talked God out of destroying the idol worshiping Israelites, but He also repeatedly angered God as well to the point where he was forbidden from entering the Promised Land at the end of the decades-long journey to freedom.  David had a man killed because he thought his wife was smoking hot and wanted her for himself.  Neither of these men were perfectly moral, but they sought and loved God for who He was and unconditionally on their parts.

It is friendship with God that brings with it God’s unconditional mercy.

Instead of fearing God because of His righteousness, power, and judgment, we should strive to befriend God because He is right there waiting for us to do just that.  It’s all that He wants as our Father…. the absolute best for us.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

Matthew 22:37

Speech

The leader of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, said recently that speech that does not contribute to the common good should not be protected and is in fact abuse if otherwise done.

I imagine that liberals and conservatives alike can come together on this issue.  Both sides agree that the freedom to speak your mind, no matter how hate-filled or wrong you might be factually, is a protected right and absolutely crucial to the maintenance of democracies, republics, and representative government.

However hurtful or inaccurate that film that “outraged” the Muslim world recently is at it’s core, it does not justify the outpouring of violence that has been a result.  However, the incident does serve as a magnifying glass on the middle east.  Can a people who get so incensed by a poorly made video truly be partners in peace or are they waiting for the next rage-justifying moment in their perpetual war against the West?

Set the World Ablaze

Foreign policy?  Domestic security?  Listen and understand – they are two facets of the same thing.  By appearing weak and ineffectual, the President has invited this.

Worse than overseas protest, is that there are no incoming threats made at universities all over the country.

As this President’s inability to stand up and lead, to show a strong face to a culture that only respects strength, I believe that we will begin to see more incidents of this.  The threats don’t even need to be credible.  Imagine if every university in the country received a bomb threat Monday morning as classes have been underway.  Imagine how many people need to be evacuated and how many bomb squads there really are.  Imagine that happening every day of the week.  How long would it take for the police bomb squads to grow exhausted?

Now imagine if just one of those threats proved credible.

When the ambassador in Libya was killed, the President should have immediately ordered a marine expeditionary unit to land and retake the embassy forcefully.  The simple fact is that President Obama lacks the moral fortitude to act when the situation at hand is spiraling wildly out of control.

Act of War

It isn’t every day that you see an act of war go completely disregarded.

Overnight, the US Ambassador to Libya was killed. Along with the Ambassador, three embassy staff were killed also.  Earlier in the day, another State Department officer was killed.  Couple these deaths with the invasion of sovereign US soil, which an embassy is under recognized international and U.S. law, and we witnessed not one, but three distinct acts of war on the parts of the people of Libya and Egypt.

Is this the Arab Spring we were told was happening?  The ushering out of brutal dictators and the ushering in of the rule of the Arab fanatical mob?

We may not have felt it today here in flyover country, but our nation was attacked three times in the past twenty-four hours, and we have done nothing.  We will do nothing because our current commander-in-chief is incapable of regarding the world as it is and recognizing our enemies for what they are.

War has been declared, the physical territory of the United States has not only been violated, but citizens and officials from our nation have been killed in cold blood.  Will we sit and do nothing or will we take heed of George Washington’s calculated advice?

If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War.

George Washington
